Colours and effects

The look of a scene comes from its palette (the colours every visualization paints with) and its effects (trails, kaleidoscope, bloom, grading). Both can be set for the whole picture, and either can be given to a single layer instead.

Overall colours

In the Scene tab, open Overall colours:

  • Click a palette swatch. All layers without their own palette use it.
  • Hue shift rotates the palette — try oscillating it () for slowly changing colours.
  • = and - step through the palettes.

Making your own palette

Press Edit palette… to start from the current one:

  • Click a colour to change it; adds a colour, removes one (2 to 12 colours).
  • Wraps around (cyclic) makes the end colour blend back into the start — best for palettes that cycle.
  • Changes show live. Save palette keeps it with your custom palettes (dashed swatches); Delete removes a saved one.

Custom palettes travel inside presets and share links, so other people see your colours too. See all the built-in palettes.

Overall effects

Open Overall effects. These apply to the finished picture:

EffectWhat it does
Mirror & kaleidoscopeFold the image: mirror left/right, top/bottom, into quarters, or a spinning kaleidoscope.
Trails / feedbackBlend in the previous frame, zoomed and rotated: trails, tunnels and MilkDrop-style warps.
BloomGlow around bright areas.
ColourBrightness, contrast, saturation, hue, and Palette map — repaint the picture with the palette.
LensChromatic aberration, vignette and film grain.

Each has Reset. See the effects reference for every setting.

A look for one layer

Open a layer:

Colours

Choose This layer's own to give the layer its own palette (it starts from the overall one, so nothing jumps). Pick a palette and hue shift for it. Overall palette goes back to sharing.

Effects

Each effect has a switch: All layers or This layer only.

  • This layer only moves the effect, with its current settings, onto this layer alone — it's applied to the layer before the layers are blended. For example: kaleidoscope just the lasers while the background stays still.
  • All layers moves it back onto the whole picture.
  • Remove from this layer takes it off the layer.

A layer can have several effects of its own, and the overall effects still apply on top. Effects on a layer have their own trails memory, so trails on one layer don't smear the others.

Motion

Under Motion & transition:

SettingWhat it does
IntensityOverall brightness and strength.
Beat reactionHow strongly motion follows the beat.
SmoothingFrom twitchy and immediate (0) to calm and flowing (1).

These are saved with the preset, so each look can have its own feel. (Your defaults for looks that don't set them are in Settings → Visual.)

Transitions

Also under Motion & transition, Transition into this scene sets how this scene arrives when it's loaded from a preset slot or by auto-pilot:

  • Style — cut, crossfade, wipe, zoom or luma.
  • Length — in beats or milliseconds.
  • Start on — immediately, or on the next beat, bar, phrase, or drop (for analysed files).

When a change is waiting for the right moment, a small banner shows what's coming. In preview mode you take changes live yourself instead.
